Government unveils South Lokichar crude transport plan, 25,000 barrels to move by road

The Ministry of Roads and Transport has assured Parliament and the public that the country’s road infrastructure is ready to handle the evacuation of crude oil from the South Lokichar Basin to the coast, with exports scheduled to begin in late 2026. Appearing before the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has laid out a plan to move approximately 25,000 barrels of oil per day by road initially, before transitioning to rail transport.
