Kenyans join the world in marking Valentine’s Day

Nairobi central business district was on Saturday painted red, as Kenyans marked this year’s Valentines’ Day. Flower vendors at the city market said business was booming, thanks in part to the ban on money bouquets by the central bank, a trend they say was denting their sales marginally. However, many Kenyans say the prevailing economic realities have necessitated scaled-down celebrations, and they will instead be focusing on modest, thoughtful gestures to express their love.
