Banyamulenge refugees living in Kenya are calling on the international community to urgently intervene in the escalating violence in eastern Democratic republic of Congo. The refugees claim that recent attacks in South Kivu involved drone strikes allegedly carried out by Congolese government forces leaving civilians dead and homes reduced to ashes. They say the community continues to be targeted because of its ethnic identity and cultural ties, despite having no control over the colonial borders that defined their nationality. the appeal comes as members of the Banyamulenge community gathered in Nairobi for a memorial mass to honor victims of the latest violence
