The Electricity Sector Association of Kenya, ESAK and the Association for Electric Mobility & Development in Africa, AEMDA are calling on the government to reduce the taxes imposed on electric vehicles to make it more attractive in the country. AEMDA MD Warren Ondaje says the tax reduction will make the vehicles more affordable to Kenyans and help in realizing the government dream of having at least 5% of all vehicles in the country as electric vehicles. Further ESAK MD George Aluru said that the country will gain by incentivizing importation of electric cars as it will reduce the amount of money paid out when purchasing fuel and also benefit from the environmental impact the cars will have on the country. The two institutions signed an MoU that is geared towards encouraging demand and adoption of e-mobility in the country.
