Meru university has been closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage after chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo was sent on terminal leave.
Acting vice Chancelor Charity Gichuki in a memo says the university has also put on hold a graduation ceremony that was scheduled for Saturday. Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the students who paralysed transport on the Meru-Maua road, lit fires and burnt a car at Nchiru market. Several students have been arrested after an attempt to enter the Nchiru police station. Prof. Odhiambo was sent on terminal leave after lecturers accused him of mismanagement of school resources.
