The National Gender and Equality Commission has launched an investigation into the state of education for the girl child in arid areas of the country, targeting 17 counties.The Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Purity Ngina, speaking in Tharaka Nithi county after meeting with education officials from the county, has said that the investigation is meant to help the commission provide advice to government departments on how to improve education and gender conditions for the girl child. The Commission aims to examine the environment of the girl child both in the community and at school, as well as challenges such as cultural practices, access to clean water, early marriages and pregnancies, menstrual health, and other factors that may affect learning
