In many countries, especially in Africa, employment creation has not kept pace with the expansion of the working-age population. Although many measures have been implemented by successive governments in Kenya since independence to address the problem of youth unemployment, these measures do not appreciate the root cause of youth unemployment. The crisis has been getting worse by the year owing to the mismatch between economic growth rate and the rate at which learning institutions release young people into the labor market. In a bid to curb the crisis, the Kenya kwanza government is implementing the controversial affordable housing programme which is already facing a number of legal hurdles.
