Music Copyright Society awards Sh20m in royalties to musicians

    Cases of financial exploitation and the struggle to protect intellectual property rights have been cited as key challenges facing artists in the Music industry. This emerged during the award of royalties by the Music Copyright Society of Kenya to musicians worth 20 million shillings accrued over five years. The musicians who cited the awards as a step in the right direction however said much more needs to be done for the industry to be lucrative and improve the fortunes of artists. During the ceremony, the highest-paid musician walked away with 750,000 shillings.
