Cabinet remains adamant that it is unsustainable to continue paying ksh 206,000 a month to medical interns. According to a cabinet dispatch, the government has endorsed the ksh 70,000 stipends proposed, saying other interns in the public service are paid ksh 25,000. According to the government, of the 19 issues in contention, only four concern the national government, being basic salary arrears, scholarships for postgraduate studies, medical insurance and stipends for medical interns. This comes even as the head of public service Felix Koskei maintains that the strike is off and doctors should return to work, failure to which they will face disciplinary action including non-payment of salaries.
