Lamu residents protest numerous roadblocks on the highway

A section of Lamu residents and human rights activists have expressed concerns about numerous erected road blocks along the busy Malindi-Lamu highway, which they say have hindered the movement of persons and goods. Addressing the media in Mombasa County, the group said that businesses and the tourism industry have been affected, urging the government to reduce the roadblocks to boost economic activities. The government introduced more roadblocks along the highway to deal with the rampant insecurity cases, which were caused by al-Shabaab militants.
