Farmers in maize growing zones have been asked to harvest their crops early before the projected El Nino rains strike in October. This is according to the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization which is warning that delays in harvesting will lead to the destruction of the current crop. 29 counties across the country are in danger of being on hunger strike, with East African communities, arid and semi-arid lands, and regional development cabinet secretary Rebecca Miano saying that the government is fastracking plans to sink boreholes in asal areas to mitigate the perennial problem.
