Four police officers of the disbanded DCI Special Services Unit who were arrested in connection with the abduction of two Indian nationals and their taxi driver on July 23rd will remain in custody for two days pending a ruling on an application filed by the Internal Affairs Unit requesting the court to hold them for 30 days pending investigations. The application has however been objected to by lawyers representing the accused, Peter Muthee, Francis Ndonye, John Kamau and Joseph Mbugua. The accused argued that the unit lacks the mandate in law to make such an application in court, a matter that the court is expected to rule on Wednesday. Meanwhile in an affidavit filed before the court, the Internal Affairs Unit says it faced interference and threats to life from public servants including police officers.
