Charl Kleinhaus was one among 59 Afrikaners to arrive in the United States as refugees under Donald Trump’s controversial resettlement programme. The Afrikaners are a white South African minoirty of mainly Dutch descent, who have been in South Africa for centuries. He has told the BBC his farm property was destroyed and he fled to the US so that they could be safe. President Trump says the Afrikaners are suffering race discrimination and are victims of what he calls a ‘white genocide’, claims which have been widely discredited.
