Family and residents of Gachie have finally found relief after the body of Maureen Wambui Munga was released for burial following months of detention over unpaid hospital bills. Maureen Wambui Munga, who died on 27th September 2025 after prolonged hospitalization, had her body held at Kenyatta Memorial Funeral Home due to an outstanding 5 million shillings bill at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital. Despite raising 600,000 shillings through a community fundraiser and a further 700,000 shillings waiver by the Social Health Authority, a balance of 3.7 million shillings remained, delaying burial plans. The stalemate was resolved after advocate Ivy Kinuthia moved to court, where Lady Justice Stella Mutuku ordered the release of the body upon payment of mortuary charges.
