A first-of-its-kind nature-based solution is transforming wastewater into a valuable resource in Mikindani, Mombasa County. A newly launched constructed wetland is now cleaning sewer water and channeling it for irrigation — safeguarding marine ecosystems and strengthening food security. The project is part of the eu-funded go blue programme, implemented in partnership with UNEP, KMFRI, NEMA, and the Mombasa County government.
