The ongoing economic challenges across the country have significantly strained the cash flow of many Kenyans, leaving most citizens without surplus income to invest in the real estate and housing sectors.
As a result, construction companies have been forced to adopt innovative measures to reduce the cost of building in a bid to make home ownership more affordable. Key strategies include purchasing rather than leasing equipment, producing their own construction materials such as concrete cabros and drainage channels, and sourcing materials directly from suppliers to eliminate costly middlemen.
Speaking during the issuance of title deeds to homeowners in Ruiru, Kiambu County, the Managing Director of Willstone Homes, Ejidio Kinyanjui, emphasised the importance of government support in these efforts. He urged the state to consider reducing taxes levied on construction materials, which continue to drive up the cost of building.
