Court dismisses 1998 bomb blast victims’ compensation case

Victims and families of the 1998 Nairobi bombing suffered a major setback after the high court dismissed a compensation petition, bringing to a close a case many had hoped would finally deliver justice. In its ruling, the court found that the petitioners failed to prove the government had prior intelligence that could have prevented the bombing. While acknowledging the immense suffering endured by survivors and bereaved families, Justice Lawrence Mugambi emphasized that sympathy could not replace the legal threshold required to establish state liability.
