A deadly prison riot in southern Ecuador has left 14 inmates dead and another 14 wounded following violent clashes between rival gangs. The incident occurred on Monday in a prison in Machala, a port town south of Guayaquil, where inmates exchanged gunfire and explosives with authorities. Police Chief William Calle confirmed that a guard was killed, several officers were kidnapped, and some prisoners briefly escaped before 13 of them were recaptured. After about 40 minutes of intense confrontation, security forces regained control of the facility.
