The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization- KALRO is urging farmers to adopt climate-smart technologies owing to persistent drought situations and unpredictable weather conditions in the country. KALRO Kilifi director Finyale Pole says farmers have continued to bear the brunt of extremely dry weather conditions and experience almost 100 percent crop failure.
The stakeholders are now urging farmers to adopt new methods of Agriculture that will boost grain production and spur livelihoods. Some of the crops farmers are encouraged to plant include green grams, cowpeas, and new varieties of maize.
According to the latest coast meteorological weather outlook, the October, and December short rains season is likely to experience depressed rainfall. They were speaking ahead of the 1st Climate-smart technology Expo that will be held in Kilifi county and will kick off on the 5th of October.The expo targets about 2,500 farmers and over 70 exhibitors.
