Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua today mounted a strong defense against his removal from office by impeachment in october 2024. Gachagua’s legal team termed the ouster unconstitutional, illegal and unprocedural, building their case on what they described as insufficient public participation. The former deputy president, who sat through day one of his impeachment hearing, however, told the court that he is not seeking reinstatement, but instead wants his impeachment quashed in its entirety. And as Citizen tv's ben kirui reports, the former DP has also challenged the legality of prof. Kithure Kindiki's appointment as his successor, arguing that there was no pubic participation.
