The government has paid out more than 2.8 billion shillings in compensation to victims of human-wildlife conflict over the past two years. The compensation drive, by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, has helped slash pending claims from 4.1 billion to about 2.3 billion shillings. This year alone, nearly 950 million shillings has already reached affected families across the country. Speaking during a stakeholder meeting held at Mangu High School in Kiambu County, Conservation Secretary in the State Department of Wildlife John Chumo said the government has also rolled out long-term measures to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
