Drama ensued in Bungoma County as top political leaders from western Kenya mobilized hundreds of farmers in a protest against the leasing of Nzoia Sugar Company to businessman Jaswant Rai. The demonstration, which paralyzed traffic along the Webuye-Malava highway, turned chaotic after police blocked the road and fired teargas to disperse the crowd that was led by DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa. And as Emily Chebet reports, some farmers from the region have come out to defend the leasing of the company saying the investor will help revive the factory and ensure that farmers and workers are paid on time
