Homa Bay county steps up efforts to boost maternal health

For 114 days, Homa Bay County maintained a clean streak with zero maternal and neonatal deaths. But the death of a mother after ingesting herbal concoctions has reset the count, highlighting how deeply rooted cultural practices continue to threaten maternal health. County health officials, including community health promoters, are now working hand in hand with traditional birth attendants, turning them into ambassadors to encourage antenatal clinic attendance and deliveries in health facilities.
