Humanitarian conditions at refugee camps in Burundi are deteriorating following a surge of refugees fleeing fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to the United Nations over one hundred thousand refugees have entered the country since early December, overwhelming local resources. Aid agencies are warning that humanitarian pressure is intensifying, with many camps and transit centres struggling with overstretched health, water, and sanitation systems.
