Kwa mujibu wa shirika la habari, mvua kubwa ambazo zimekuwa zikinyesha katika wiki za karibuni zilisababisha kuporomoka kwa sehemu ya eneo hilo, ambalo ndilo pekee linalotumika kutupa takataka mjini humo, na kupelekea kufunikwa kwa baadhi ya nyumba zilizokuwa karibu, wakati wenyewe walipokuwa wamelala. Mamlaka za jiji Jumamosi zilisema kuwa watu 8 walikufa, lakini kufikia leo idadi hiyo imeongezeka hadi 21, huku wengine 14 walijeruhiwa. Kati ya waliofariki miili isiyopungua miwili ilikuwa ya watoto. Shirika la Msalaba mwekundu nchini humo limesema kuwa mahema yamewekwa karibu na eneo la tukio, ili kutoa hifadhi kwa watu walioathiriwa. Eneo hilo linalofahamika kama Kiteezi, kwa miongo mingi limekuwa likitupwa taka taka za Kampala, hadi kugeuka na kuwa mlima, huku wakazi waishio karibu wakilalamika kutokana na taka zenye sumu, pamoja na uharibifu wa mazingira.
