IEBC chairman Edung Ethekon has announced that the commission will be consulting with the office of the attorney general on concerns raised about early political campaigns witnessed in the country two years before the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a breakfast engagement with media stakeholders, Ethekon said although it is an issue that has been raised severally times, they're tied to a high court ruling that directed the attorney general to draft new laws on political campaigns within one year. The three-judge bench in their ruling stated that political campaigns outside the election period violate fundamental rights as enshrined in the Constitution.
