War is tearing through Lebanon, but for tens of thousands of African domestic workers, escape is legally impossible. Since Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel following the assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Israeli strikes have killed over 600 people and displaced 800,000 more. Yet African migrants employed under the Kafala system remain trapped unable to leave without employer consent. Nkechi Ogbonna speaks with Beirut-based activist Banchi Yimer, an Ethiopian domestic worker turned NGO founder, on what abandonment looks like when a country is at war.
