Junior Secondary School Teachers from Kwale County have strongly opposed the move by the Teachers’ Service Commission to hire only 26,000 teachers on permanent basis. Speaking in Ukunda after holding demonstrations to pressurize the government to fulfill their demands, the teachers called on the Teachers service commission to hire all teachers across the country. Led by the Kwale branch assistant secretary Julius Mvurya, the teachers have increasingly criticized the government for ignoring the court order. They have also argued that the government should compensate them for the low salaries since they were put on contract last year.
