Kenya has unveiled major reforms aimed at improving efficiency along the Northern Corridor, a key trade route linking Mombasa to regional markets. The government plans to reduce excessive police roadblocks, cut transit delays, and streamline cargo movement to boost competitiveness and reduce the cost of doing business. Speaking during a sensitisation forum in Ngong, Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs Dr. Caroline W. Karugu highlighted that inefficiencies, including up to 27 police roadblocks and system delays, have increased transit time and driven cargo to competing routes. The reforms, involving agencies such as the Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and the National Police Service, aim to reduce transit time to 36–48 hours while improving security response and ICT systems.
