Kenyans urged to conserve and take care of the marine ecosystems

    Government and Non-Governmental Organization have called upon Kenyans to preserve and conserve beaches at the coast region from plastic bag pollution. While conducting the exercise at pirate’s beach in Mombasa, officers from the Kenya navy, kenya coast guard service and other non - governmental organization joined hands in celebrating international coast clean-up day by collecting harmful material to the sea creatures. John kinyanjui a director of the kenya coast guard services noted that its important to curb activities and behavious that threaten the maritime industry. Also, the world-wide fund for nature, is calling for the adoption of a global, legally binding treaty in a bid to tackle the escalating plastic pollution crisis in the ocean. At the same time, he called on beverage companies to redesign their products better and create items that are both recyclable and reusable. According to the united nation environment programme, approximately 19-23 million tonnes of plastic waste enter the oceans every year hence endangering marine life and ecosystems. __
