With only four days to the start of the Africa Boxing Championship in Nairobi, Kenya’s Hit Squad has intensified training at its base in Mathare, hoping for a stronger performance on home soil.
Kenya will host the competition from October 12 to 28 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
The team started training two weeks ago at the Mathare Deport Police Gym, with the boxers saying they have had adequate preparations to take on the rest of Africa.
The large number of boxers in camp is also helping the team sharpen its preparations through regular sparring sessions ahead of the tournament.
Senior boxers Boniface Mogunde, Amina Martha and Edwin Okong’o will lead the Kenyan team as they chase glory on home soil.
The championship will also provide the boxers with an opportunity to build momentum ahead of next year’s Olympic qualifiers scheduled for Nigeria.
