Kilifi County has recorded a decline in teenage pregnancies in Kilifi South Sub-county after a three-year intervention targeting adolescents and families. Rates dropped from about 21 per cent to 15 per cent, with lows of 12.5 per cent. The programme, led by the Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF) in partnership with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), improved access to reproductive health information and strengthened parent-child communication
Kikambala Assistant County Commissioner Minika Hamisi Otiono said the initiative has helped reduce pregnancies and school dropouts among girls.
CHPF trustee Reuben Waswa and cited improved awareness and progress in high-burden areas, while Programme Manager Adah Alela called for expansion to sustain the gains.
