After decades of darkness, the remote villages of Kiratina and Gikumari in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are finally set to be connected to electricity.
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who launched the power connection initiative in the area, described the two villages as the most remote parts of Ruiru constituency and Kiambu County at large. The project, already underway through the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Commission in collaboration with other agencies, will connect residents to power at no cost. Wandayi, who was accompanied by Ruiru MP Simon King’ara, also announced that the ministry plans to extend similar connections across the entire county.
