KUPPET rejects Raila’s proposal to devolve Education

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education teachers has vehemently opposed the proposal to devolve education to the counties. Kuppet leaders Akelo Misori and Omboko Milemba argue that devolution of education would weaken the sector, noting that counties are already struggling with health and early childhood education. Kuppet says that ECD schools lack teachers, classrooms, and basic infrastructure, making countries unfit to run education. The union insists education must remain a national function, warning that placing teachers under the control of MCAs would be disastrous. Instead, they urge leaders to focus on making public education free at all levels, increasing teacher promotions, and phasing out boarding schools to reduce costs and keep children under parental care.
