Gender-based violence cases in Mombasa have risen by more than 45 percent since 2022, with women leaders and activists calling for urgent intervention. Speaking at the Tononoka Children’s Court, they described GBV as a growing crisis affecting women, men and children across the county. Advocate Fatma Bakari Barayani said many abuse cases go unreported despite constitutional protections on human dignity and freedom from discrimination. She announced plans to launch free legal clinics in Mombasa to help victims access justice and support services.
