The Kerugoya Magistrate Court has ordered Peter Kanumbi, the main suspect in the murder of Mwea teacher Betty Wanjiru Nyaga, to remain in police custody for five days pending investigations. Kanumbi was arrested in Mpeketoni, Lamu County, after months in hiding following the disappearance and death of his fiancée. Appearing before Magistrate Lisper Gakii Nyaga, the suspect denied the allegations leveled against him. The court declined to grant him bond over security concerns after angry residents allegedly torched his house following the incident.
