Energy sector players have raised concerns over the proposed petroleum regulations of 2024, saying some of the proposed legislations are punitive to stakeholders. In the proposed regulations, practitioners in the liquefied petroleum gas LPG industry, will be required to obtain relevant licenses for activities like importation, exportation, storage, refilling, distribution, retail, and installation. Apart from that the dealers also have to adhere to licensing categories for specific activities, such as LPG installers (e.g., pipe-fitter, technician, engineer etc) The new requirements could see an increase in the cost of petroleum commodities as the cost of compliance increases.
