The governor of Niger State, north-central Nigeria, where 37 suspected illegal miners died in custody, says survivors gave different accounts of what happened before the deaths. Mohammed Umaru Bago told the BBC’s Madina Maishanu that one survivor claimed an unidentified substance was sprayed inside the cell, causing the detainees to cough and choke.
