The Government of Kenya has issued a stern warning to non-compliant Saccos, threatening to revoke licenses of over 10,000 institutions that have failed to submit annual returns. Speaking on the matter, Wycliffe Oparanya revealed that only 2,700 out of 13,000 registered Saccos are adhering to legal reporting requirements.
The move signals a major crackdown aimed at restoring transparency, accountability, and protecting members’ savings within the cooperative sector. Authorities say stricter enforcement will be key in cleaning up the industry and ensuring only compliant Saccos remain operational.
