The Ministry of Health has flagged off 2000 cold chain equipment among them refrigerators , cold boxes and temperature monitors for preserving vaccines. The initiative is part of a national effort to strengthen immunization infrastructure and protect the health of every Kenyan child. Speaking during the flag –off at Afya House, the cabinet secretary for Health Aden Duale, said the initiative which has been supported by UNICEF and World Bank, cost an estimated 2.1Billion shillings. The ministry has also launched the Kenya Electronic National Vaccine and Immunization Portal—KeNVIP, a platform that will build a comprehensive and real-time repository for vaccine and immunization data management.
