Pastoralists in the Witu area, Lamu County, are counting heavy losses after more than 50 cattle reportedly died after grazing on suspected poisoned grass. Speaking after the incident, nominated Senator, Shakila Abdallah, urged the national government and security agencies to launch thorough investigations and bring to book perpetrators of the act. The Senator has demanded compensation for the affected families. The incident has sparked fear and anger among pastoralist communities, who say the deaths of their livestock have dealt a major economic blow to families that depend on livestock for their livelihood.
