The car importers association of Kenya has opposed the draft national automotive industry automotive bill 2025, saying that it will cause massive job losses if implemented immediately
Speaking during a public participation forum organized by the Ministry of trade in Kisumu, association chairman Peter Otieno proposed the gradual phasing out of imported cars registered before 2019, and allow stakeholders to make the necessary adjustments. The bill provides for, among other things, the decommissioning of written off vehicles to be used as spare parts and steel supply in the automotive industry. In plans to spur industrialization, the government had in August announced a 13 billion shillings affordable credit kitty for players in the automotive sector.
