As Kenya continues to witness massive infrastructure expansion and increased housing development, regulators have been challenged to prioritize public satisfaction and ensure essential services keep pace with the country’s transformation. Speaking on the evolving role of regulatory agencies, Dr. Raymond Omollo said public perception and awareness remain critical in measuring the effectiveness of government institutions, emphasizing that citizens must remain at the center of service delivery. He noted that while the country is undergoing monumental change through major construction projects and urban development, the growth also presents complex challenges that require proactive planning and oversight. Dr. Omollo warned that regulators must ensure adequate provision of electricity, water, and sewer infrastructure before approving new housing and construction projects to avoid future service failures. He further called on institutions to learn from past experiences and remain responsive to the needs of the public. “The citizens are our bosses and we must make sure that they are happy even as we try to carry them along,” he said. — CS Raymond Omollo
