A section of University of Nairobi students is crying foul after being left out of the 2024 graduation list. They said they had fulfilled the required obligations but had been left out of the final list at the last minute after a senate audit.
However, University of Nairobi has disputed the claim that they were left out unfairly, noting that all eligible students will be graduating tomorrow (Friday December 12).
“The final list is the one from the university senate. The senate sat on Tuesday and approved the list. Anyone who has cleared with the university had their details taken to the senate. There’re people who have not cleared because of different reasons like non-payment of fees or they didn’t pass some units,” said John Orindi, the director of corporate affairs at UoN.
He said that on Wednesday, 49 students lodged an appeal with the university after being left out of the graduation list. After reviewing their appeals, 30 of them were cleared to graduate.
He noted that undergraduate students who had fees balances of less than Sh2,000 and Sh5,000 for post-graduate were cleared to graduate.
“There’s no uniform problem...everyone has a unique problem,” Mr Orindi said.
