Two senators allied to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition have said have narrated their decision to vote to Amason Kingi as senate speaker last Thursday.
Mombasa senator Mohamed Faki and his Kilifi counterpart Stewart Madzayo said they voted for Kingi who was sponsored by Kenya Kwanza after the Azimio senate candidate Kalonzo Musyoka had withdrawn from the race.
Speaking at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa County, the senators said senators from the Coast region opted for regional consideration after their candidate withdrew and hence they did nothing wrong.
They said their statement was endorsed by Taita Taveta senator Jones Mwaruma (Wiper), Kwale senator Issa Juma (ODM) and Lamu senator Joseph Kamau of Jubilee who also voted for Kingi.
Madzayo said his candidature for deputy speaker suffered when Azimio senators walked out of the house in protest but members from the Coast decided to back Kingi who is former Kilifi governor.
