Senators and governors reach truce, ending months-long standoff over county funding

    Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot now says the Senate has closed ranks with the Council of Governors, breaking a stalemate triggered by allegations from county chiefs that some members of the county public accounts committee were engaging in extortion. According to the House leadership, governors have agreed to lift their boycott of appearing before Senate oversight committees. In return, senators have pledged to consider their push for increased funding in the next financial year. As Emmanuel too reports, the Senate Finance and Budget Committee has recommended an allocation of over Sh450 billion to counties in the upcoming budget.
