SHA to cover only 36 overseas procedures under new referral rules

The Social Health Authority will only cover treatment costs for medical procedures that are not available in Kenya. The Benefits Package and Tariffs Advisory Panel has identified thirty-six such procedures that will be covered at a maximum cost of half a million shillings. The Cs for health Aden Duale says this is necessary to stop medical tourism and corruption between local and foreign doctors, as well as ensure the sustainability of SHA’s overseas treatment.
