Sugar factory workers have suspended their nationwide strike after the Government agreed to start paying long-standing salary arrears and terminal benefits. The strike, which began on January 29 and affected Muhoroni, Nzoia, Sony, and Chemelil sugar factories, was called off following talks between the Government and the Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation and Allied Workers. Under the agreement, the Government will release 1 billion shillings within two weeks to ease workers’ hardship, with the remaining 9.8 billion to be paid in phases through the Supplementary Budget and future allocations.
