They play for the same team – Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr – and are both strikers. Tanzania’s Clara Luvanga speaks fondly of her idol Cristiano Ronaldo, who she describes as “an icon”. But the path of these two teammates couldn’t be more different.
While the Portuguese striker has scored 8 goals throughout different World Cups, Tanzania has only scored their first ever goal at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) against South Africa last Friday. But when it comes to stamina and determination, Luvanga and her teammates displayed a performance worthy of plaudits against the defending Wafcon champions.
They drew 1 x 1, with one player down. After holding back the South Africans, they must beat Ghana, to move on to the knockout stage.
