Wafcon 2024: Why does the women's game have a slimmer wallet? - BBC Africa
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations concluded over the weekend with Nigeria triumphing over hosts Morocco in the final.
The tournament showed that progress continues on the pitch when it comes to the continent’s best female players. But off it, there were familiar challenges.
The tournament saw empty stadiums, players going on strike over bonuses and a disparity in the prize pot for the women compared to the men.
BBC Sport Africa’s Celestine Karoney has been covering the tournament and explores why the women's game has a slimmer wallet among other challenges.
